Smith, Leon E. The OLEM measures U emissions from the UF6 gas flowing through a unit header pipe using NaI Tl spectrometers, and corrects for gas density changes using pressure and temperature sensors in order to determine the enrichment of the gas as a function of time. In parallel with the OLEM instrument development, a Virtual OLEM VOLEM software tool has been developed that is capable of producing synthetic gamma-ray, pressure, and temperature data representative of a wide range of enrichment plant operating conditions.
VOLEM complements instrument development activities and allows the study of OLEM for scenarios that will be difficult or impossible to evaluate empirically.
Uses of VOLEM include: investigation of hardware design options; inter-comparison of candidate gamma-ray spectral analysis and enrichment estimation algorithms; uncertainty budget analysis and performance prediction for typical and atypical operational scenarios; and testing of the OLEM data acquisition, analysis and reporting software.
An overview of the nominal instrument design and deployment scenario for OLEM is provided, with emphasis on the key online -assay measurement challenge: accurately determining the portion of the total U signal that comes from a background that includes solid uranium deposits on the piping walls.
Monte Carlo modeling tools, data analysis algorithms and uncertainty quantification methods are described. VOLEM is then used to quantitatively explore the uncertainty budgets and predicted instrument performance for a plausible range of typical plant operating parameters, and one set of candidate analysis algorithms.
Does trait affectivity predict work-to-family conflict and enrichment beyond job characteristics? Furthermore, interactions between job characteristics and trait affectivity while predicting WFC and WFE were examined. These results highlight the importance of trait affectivity in work-family research. They provide further support for the crucial impact of job characteristics as well. This article aims to analyze work-to-family conflict WFC and enrichment WFE profiles related to job characteristics and well-being at work and general well-being.
A cross-sectional survey data of employees was analyzed. ANCOVAs were performed to analyze the relationship of the identified profiles with job characteristics and well-being. Employees in the Beneficial profile had the best perception of job characteristics lowest demands and the highest control and support and the highest well-being, and those in the Harmful profile had the lowest job characteristics perceptions and the lowest well-being.
Through a comparison of the Moderate Active profile and the Moderate Harmful profile, WFE was found to buffer the effects of the WFC on well-being at work burnout; engagement and on general well-being i. The promotion of WFE through higher job autonomy, job support, and fewer demands is a crucial aspect to consider. This study helps to consolidate the work-family balance typology and its effects on employees’ well-being, and broadens this framework to consider job characteristics.
Gender and language in online job advertisements – a cross-cultural study. The aim of this project is to investigate the use of gender-fair language from a cross-linguistic perspective.
Specifically, we are interested in whether the use of gender-fair language correlates with socio-economic rankings of gender equality and with structural features of a language.
We decided to analyze online job advertisements, as they reflect common language use and can easily be compared across languages. Moreover, formulations in job advertisements have been shown to impact personn An on-line enrichment monitor was developed to measure the enrichment of UF6 flowing through the processing pipes in centrifuge uranium enrichment plant. A NaI Tl detector was used to measure the count rates of the keV gamma ray emitted from U, and the total quantity of uranium was determined from thermodynamic characteristics of gaseous uranium hexafluoride.
There are two working models for the monitor. The monitor works normally in the continuous model, When the gas’s pressure in the pipe fluctuates greatly, it can work in the intermittent model, and the measurement result is very well. The background of the monitor can be measured automatically periodically. It can control automatically electromagnetic valves open and close, so as to change the gas’s quantity in the chamber. It is a kind of unattended and remote monitor, all of data can be transfer to central control room.
It should be effective for nuclear materials accountability verifications and materials balance verification at uranium enrichment plant by using the monitor to monitor Uranium enrichment of gaseous uranium hexafluoride in the output end of cascade continuously. On-line liquid chromatography-gas chromatography: A novel approach for the analysis of phytosterol oxidation products in enriched foods.
A novel methodology for the automated qualitative and quantitative determination of phytosterol oxidation products in enriched foods via on-line liquid chromatography-gas chromatography LC-GC was established. Two LC-fractions containing i 5,6-epoxy- and 7-hydroxyphytosterols, and ii 7-ketophytosterols are transferred on-line to the GC for the analysis of their individual compositions on a medium polar trifluoropropylmethyl polysiloxane capillary column.
Thus, conventionally employed laborious off-line purification and enrichment steps can be avoided. Validation data, including recovery, repeatability, and reproducibility of the method, were elaborated using an enriched margarine as example. The margarine was subjected to a heating procedure in order to exemplarily monitor the formation of phytosterol oxidation products.
The developed approach offers a new possibility for the reliable and fast analysis of phytosterol oxidation products in enriched foods. All rights reserved. In this investigation, we draw from the job demands-resource model and conservation of resources theory to examine the relationship between job demands, the work-family interface and worker behaviours. Data collected from an online survey of workers revealed that hindrance demands indirectly increase interpersonal and organizational deviance through work interference with family and family interference with work.
Challenge demands indirectly predict interpersonal and organizational deviance through work interference with family. Finally, hindrance demands indirectly decreased individual-directed organizational citizenship behaviours through work-to-family enrichment. What matters for working fathers?
Job characteristics, work-family conflict and enrichment , and fathers’ postpartum mental health in an Australian cohort. One in ten fathers experience mental health difficulties in the first year postpartum. However, few studies have examined work-family conflict and mental health for postpartum fathers specifically.
The aim of the present study was to identify the particular work characteristics e. Survey data from fathers of infants aged months participating in the Longitudinal Study of Australian Children were analysed via path analysis, considering key confounders age, education, income, maternal employment, maternal mental health and relationship quality.
Long and inflexible work hours, night shift, job insecurity, a lack of autonomy and more children in the household were associated with increased work-family conflict, and this was in turn associated with increased distress. Job security, autonomy, and being in a more prestigious occupation were positively associated with work-family enrichment and better mental health. These findings from a nationally representative sample of Australian fathers contribute novel evidence that employment characteristics, via work-family conflict and work-family enrichment , are key determinants of fathers’ postnatal mental health, independent from established risk factors.
Findings will inform the provision of specific ‘family-friendly’ conditions protective for fathers during this critical stage in the family life-cycle, with implications for their wellbeing and that of their families. Does stimulating various coping strategies alleviate loneliness? Results from an online friendship enrichment program.

This study was designed to examine the impact of role clarity and job training on job satisfaction among peer specialists.
A 3-part survey assessing job training, job satisfaction, and role clarity was administered online to peer specialists who are members of the International Association of Peer Specialists. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlational analyses to include multiple linear regressions and analysis of variance.
Self-study and online training methods were negatively correlated with job satisfaction while job shadowing was positively correlated with job satisfaction. Role clarity was positively correlated with job satisfaction and job training satisfaction as well as job shadowing and one-on-one training.
The use of self-study and online training for peer specialists is contraindicated by current findings, which suggest the need to utilize job shadowing or training methods that allow for personal interaction between peer specialists and their colleagues.
The purpose of this study was to measure and explore factors influencing K online teachers’ job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and turnover intentions. Ianakiev, Kiril D. Relationship between cynicism and job satisfaction: exploration of mechanisms. Personality traits related to evaluation of other people and the world are important to study in relation to job satisfaction, which itself is an evaluation of various facets of a job , including the social dimensions. Accordingly, the relationship between cynicism and job satisfaction was studied.
Cynicism was expected to be negatively related to job satisfaction, employees’ perceptions of job enrichment , quality of leader-member exchange, and support from coworkers.
Individuals high in Cynicism were likely to have lower job satisfaction, job enrichment , quality of leader-member exchange, and perceptions of co-worker support. Modelling job support, job fit, job role and job satisfaction for school of nursing sessional academic staff. Sessional academic staff are an important part of nursing education. Increases in casualisation of the academic workforce continue and satisfaction with the job role is an important bench mark for quality curricula delivery and influences recruitment and retention.
This study examined relations between four job constructs – organisation fit, organisation support, staff role and job satisfaction for Sessional Academic Staff at a School of Nursing by creating two path analysis models. A cross-sectional correlational survey design was utilised.
Participants who were currently working as sessional or casual teaching staff members were invited to complete an online anonymous survey. The data represents a convenience sample of Sessional Academic Staff in at a large school of Nursing and Midwifery in Australia.
After psychometric evaluation of each of the job construct measures in this study we utilised Structural Equation Modelling to better understand the relations of the variables.
The measures used in this study were found to be both valid and reliable for this sample. Job support and job fit are positively linked to job satisfaction. Although the hypothesised model did not meet model fit standards, a new ‘nested’ model made substantive sense.
This small study explored a new scale for measuring academic job role, and demonstrated how it promotes the constructs of job fit and job supports. All four job constructs are important in providing job satisfaction – an outcome that in turn supports staffing stability, retention, and motivation. A summation of online recruiting practices for health care organizations.
Worker shortage is among the foremost challenges facing US health care today. Health care organizations are also confronted with rising costs of recruiting and compensating scarce workers in times of declining reimbursement. Many health care organizations are adopting online recruitment as a nontraditional, low-cost method for hiring staff. Online recruitment is the fastest growing method of recruitment today, and has advantages over traditional recruiting in terms of cost, reach, and time-saving.
Several health care organizations have achieved great success in recruiting online. Yet awareness of online recruiting remains lower among health care managers than managers in other industries. Many health care organizations still search for job candidates within a mile radius using traditional methods. This article describes the various aspects of online recruitment for health care organizations.
It is meant to help health care managers currently recruiting online by answering frequently asked questions eg, Should I be advertising on national job sites? Why is my Web site not attracting job seekers?
Is my online ad effective? It is also meant to educate health care managers not doing online recruiting so that they try recruiting online. The article discusses the salient aspects of online recruiting: a using commercial job boards; b building one’s own career center; c building one’s own job board; d collecting and storing resumes; e attracting job seekers to one’s Web site; f creating online job ads; g screening and evaluating candidates online ; and h building long-term relationships with candidates.
Job seekers in health care are adopting the Internet faster than health care employers. To recruit successfully during the current labor shortage, it is imperative that employers adopt and expand online recruiting. Relationships between workplace well-being, job demands and resources in a sample of veterinary nurses in New Zealand.
To use a job demands-resources model to examine the associations among perceived job demands, job resources, family-to-work enrichment , positive team relationships, work engagement, emotional exhaustion, cynicism and intention to leave, in a sample of New Zealand veterinary nurses. Data were collected by means of a self-reported online survey, with the help of eight New Zealand tertiary education providers and the New Zealand Veterinary Nurses’ Association.
Nine measures or variables were assessed using questions or statements with responses categorised on a linear scale. Measurement models for each of the variables in the study were assessed to establish whether the variables represented the respective item-level data.
Structural equation modelling was then used to test the hypothesised interrelationships among study variables. There were respondents; It is important that job resources are available to help deal with demanding work. Without resources, demanding work is associated with exhaustion, cynicism and increased intention to leave, while positive spill over between work and family life are related to higher work engagement.
Recently, an online adaptation of the friendship enrichment program FEP was developed and tested to gain insight in its contribution to the alleviation of loneliness. Three loneliness coping strategies are introduced during the program: network development, adapting relationship standards, and reducing the importance of the discrepancy between actual and desired relationships. Data were collected among participants aged Loneliness was measured four times using a multi-item scale, and on various days with a single, direct question.
Loneliness assessed with the scale declined during and after the program. Scores on loneliness assessed for a specific day, however, are more ambiguous.
Despite the immediate positive effect of conducting assignments, we did not observe a decline in the single loneliness item score over the course of the program.
The online FEP seems to reduce loneliness in general, but these effects are not visible on today’s loneliness. Nevertheless, the online intervention to reduce loneliness is a valuable new contribution to the collection of loneliness interventions. Online working environments develop and change continuously, meaning that online leaders and online team members must learn to adapt to change and should utilize emerging possibilities for doing their jobs.
The purpose of this chapter is to explore how online leaders learn from experiences develo Impact of external job mobility and occupational job mobility on earnings. Age as a moderator in the job stressor-well-being relationship in three Finnish occupational samples.
This study examined whether an employee’s age moderates the relationships between job stressors i. In a situation of high job insecurity, the younger nurses reported higher work-family enrichment , job satisfaction, and vigor compared to their older colleagues.
A similar result was also found among the service sector workers in relation to vigor at work. Thus, young age buffered against negative outcomes related to job insecurity. Moreover, older age buffered against the negative effect of high workload on job satisfaction among the service sector and against high work-family conflict on life satisfaction among the academic employees.
More attention should be paid to the ability of younger employees to manage problems related to work-family imbalance and high workload, and to older employees’ ability to cope with job insecurity. The findings of this study recommend different stress management interventions for older and younger employees.

The effect of public service announcements aimed at promoting primary prevention of skin cancer may be limited by superficial cognitive processing. The use of both pictures and textual arguments in sun protection public service announcements were evaluated for their potentially beneficial effects on judgment, cognitive processing and persuasiveness.
In a 2 x 2 factorial experimental design individuals were shown public service announcements that advocated the advantages of sun protection measures in different versions in which a picture was present or not present and a textual argument was present or not present. The participants were randomly assigned to one of four conditions. In each condition, participants were shown 12 different public service announcements designed according to the condition. Participants judged each public service announcement on attractiveness, credibility, clarity of communication and the required amount of reflection.
After the judgment task, they completed a questionnaire to assess knowledge, perceived advantages and disadvantages of sun protection and intended use of sun protection measures. Pictures enhanced attractiveness, but diminished comprehension.
Textual arguments enhanced attractiveness, credibility and comprehension. Pictures as well as textual arguments increased knowledge of sun protection measures.
Pictures and textual arguments in public service announcements positively influence the individual’s perception of the advantages of sun protection methods and the advantages of their adoption. The Elaboration Likelihood Model ELM by Petty and Cacioppo argues that engagement with messages that consist of substantive content causes the audience member to critically analyze the message, which can produce awareness and attitude change. An efficient way to add emphasis to the message and seize the attention of the target audience is to insert the message into an entertainment context.
Our study attempted to analyze the impact of the peripheral cue, character appeal, on audience members’ attitude change in response to analyzing high- and low-involvement message content. The findings showed that celebrity status is the salient factor, with source perception inducing attitude change as a main effect or in an interaction effect with high- and low message content.

Additionally these announcements were more effective among viewers who were current smokers or had a prior smoking experience.
Public figure announcements about cancer and opportunities for cancer communication: a review and research agenda. Announcements by public figures and celebrities about cancer diagnosis or death represent significant events in public life.
But what are the substantive effects of such events, if any? The purpose of this article is to systematically review studies that examined the impact of public figure cancer announcements on cancer-oriented outcomes. Results fairly consistently indicated that cancer announcements from public figures had meaningful effects on many, if not most, of these outcome variables.
While such events essentially act as naturally occurring interventions, the effects tend to be relatively short term. Gaps in this literature include few contemporary studies of high-profile public figures in the United States and a general lack of theory-based research.
Directions for future research as well as implications for cancer communication and prevention are discussed. In general, there are two major issues in building an effective vehicular announcement network. Second, users usually lack the motivation to forward announcements. In this paper, we endeavor to resolve these two issues through proposing an effective announcement network called CreditCoin, a novel privacy-preserving incentive announcement network based on Blockchain via an efficient anonymous vehicular announcement aggregation protocol.
On the one hand, CreditCoin allows nondeterministic different signers i. On the other hand, with Blockchain, CreditCoin motivates users with incentives to share traffic information.
In addition, transactions and account information in CreditCoin are tamper-resistant. CreditCoin thus is able to motivate users to forward announcements anonymously and reliably.
Extensive experimental results show that CreditCoin is efficient and practical in simulations of smart transportation. Dividend announcements reconsidered: Dividend changes versus dividend surprises.
