– Anyone get a job not through USAJOBS? – New Hire (or looking to be hired) – Federal Soup
Welcome Guest! To enable all features please Login or Register. I have a degree in a field which the government has multiple agencies authorized to direct hire for due to a severe shortage. Continuing to search in other venues, I found a government job that was NOT listed at USAJOBS or is probably clumped in with the agency’s direct hire general posting that asked for a resume to be sent directly to an actual person!!! Has anyone else ever dealt with a real individual?
Do you speak to them and then have to go through the lengthy government process, or is this individual able to hire as a HR would in the private sector. Very curious, because I did not know it would be possible to apply for a government job through other channels. Also I sent my resume on Friday, and the individual emailed me back today because she could not open my email attachment, so she sounds like she may be a speedy government individual which would be awesome because this job is so perfect sounding for me, plus I have been unemployed almost 6 months trying to switch from private to government in my career, so you can imagine I am a bit on the desperate side.
SC wrote: speedy government individual. I was brought on through a referral, so I dealt directly with a few people over the course of being hired. Well this person is a supervisory team leader, and it appears she will be making either the suggestions or the outright hiring decision to place staff on her team. She’s checking emails and reviewing emails on a Sunday so it appears that she’s not trying to waste any time to hire someone. Sometimes they are posted on the US Courts website, sometimes just in the hiring unit’s district through local sources.
Six years ago, my Federal position was posted in the local Newspaper, for one day! I have applied for a few jobs like that.
What happened in my case is that I sent the application to an actual person, they then told me I looked good and then gave me an announcement number for application manager that I believe couldn’t be found through a search, and had to apply again. I was referred, but have yet to hear anything. Aren’t all the Navy jobs also on usajobs? I went that route, but have yet to see a Navy job not also shown on usajobs.
I’m just looking for s, so maybe there are other cases when it does happen that way. I generally go directly to the agency’s website. It takes a bit more time having to create a profile and resume at each site, but I’ve had greater success with referrals and interviews this way. The Navy does not have a notification function, but they automatically consider you for any openings after you register. When you register you should have been able to pick job codes you are willing to be considered for along with locations throughout the world where you would be willing to work.
After that, you just check your “My Status” tab occasionally to see if your resume was pulled recently. I have been contacted several times for positions that were never even posted. They just did a resume pull from the system and used that to form a list of intrested candidates. Postal Service job.
